Timing in a Changing Season

Life moves in seasons. Some are filled with growth and abundance, while others require

waiting, pruning, and rebuilding. Every season has a purpose, and every season invites

us into a deeper understanding of ourselves and God's heart for us and with us in times

of change.

A good question to ask is, "What season am I in now?" Often the answer begins by

examining three areas that shape our journey: our past, our emotions, and the

judgments we form through previous experiences. As we grow in understanding,

we become better equipped to walk forward into the next season with wisdom, freedom,

and grace.

Looking Back to Move Forward

Our past isn't meant to keep us stuck - it holds lessons that prepare us for what's

ahead. Whether our memories are filled with joy or hardship, they contain wisdom that

can shape the next season.

Rather than ignoring or burying the past, invite God into it by asking, "Lord, what in my

past is meant to prepare me for this next season?" Some of our greatest growth comes

from the chapters we'd rather forget. As we embrace our story with honesty and

courage, we discover how God can redeem every experience and use it to strengthen

our resilience for the future.

Jesus compared the Kingdom of Heaven to treasure hidden in a field (Matthew 13:44).

Sometimes that hidden treasure is found within our own life story, waiting to be

uncovered and carried through new understanding into the next season.

Understanding Emotions

Our emotions are not obstacles - they are indicators. God designed them to reveal what

is happening within us, give us a message, and to draw our attention to areas that need

are in need of healing, growth, or wisdom.

  • Fear may reveal uncertainty.

  • Anger can expose a violated boundary.

  • Grief reminds us that something valuable has been lost.

  • Joy reflects an area that radiates with gratitude and connection.

Instead of reacting impulsively, ask:

 What is this emotion telling me.

 What is God inviting me to see.

 Is there a wise response available.

Jesus consistently looked beyond people's behavior to understand the condition of their

heart. When we learn to recognize our emotions instead of suppressing them,

comprehension begins to replace criticism, and wisdom can shape our responses.

As Proverbs 20:5 reminds us, "The purposes of a person's heart are deep waters, but

one who has insight draws them out."

Understanding Judgments

One of Jesus most quoted teachings is, "Do not judge." (Matthew 7:1). Yet He wasn't

telling us to abandon discernment. He was confronting hypocritical judgment - criticizing

others while refusing to examine ourselves. Later, Jesus instructs us, "Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly." (John 7:24). God calls us to discernment rooted in humility, truth, and love - not an assignment of motives, assumptions, criticism, or condemnation.

Healthy discernment helps us establish wise boundaries, protect relationships, and

respond with grace rather than reacting from past wounds. It allows us to see ourselves

and others through the lens of God's perspective, instead of a myopia viewpoint.

Every Season Requires Understanding

No matter the season you're in or coming next, understanding the timing, is one of

God's greatest gifts.

 Understanding through our past…can bring healing.

 Understanding emotions…develops empathy.

 Understanding judgments…cultivates discernment.

Timing helps us prepare to navigate change with greater maturity and a deeper intimacy

with ourselves and God. As you find yourself entering a new season or waiting for

what's next, begin with a simple prayer:

"Lord, teach me the value of Your timing, and the ways You help prepare me for the days ahead. I choose to trust in Your timing of this next season because You are with me and Your plan and timing is perfect." Amen.
